Remove Russia from UN security council
Remove Russia from UN security council
Why this petition matters
Russian Federation acquired its Permanent Member status of UN Security Council as the successor to the Soviet Union in 1991. This right, however, could go to any of the constituent republics of the USSR, which then ceased to exist. Russia was just the largest one among them.
Recent unprovoked aggression of Russian military forces against peaceful Ukrainian people violates a number of articles of UN Charter, e.g., articles 1 and 2, where sovereignty and equal rights of any nations are declared and international peace and security are guaranteed by every member state. Senseless of this aggression creates doubts that Russian governing persons are sane enough not to escalate the war up to use nuclear weapons. At the same time the Russian veto power coming from its UN SC Permanent Membership prevents UN to take adequate mandatory actions to curb Russians.
Therefore, we urge UN to remove RF from UN SC and replace it by Ukraine, whose people are now fighting for democracy and human rights against the biggest danger in the world. We know similar precedent happened in 1971 when ROC membership was replaced by PRC in a way less dramatic situation.
United Nation had been created by nations - winners in WWII against the Nazism - the most evil then. Now we must help Ukraine to overcome the most terrible evil of present time.
